Crystal Controlled Turntable Power Supply

The White Noise turntable power supply generates a crystal controlled 50/60Hz mains supply for all turntables using 230/110V synchronous ac motors. This unit is crystal controlled for the utmost speed accuracy and constancy, whilst producing up to 30W of 230/110V ac mains power. Crystal controlled power supplies are far superior to those which derive their 50/60Hz signal from a simple RC oscillator. Such oscillators have poor frequency stability and temperature sensitivity when compared to crystal controlled signal sources. Most turntable motors consume somewhere between 2-5watts of power at ac mains voltage and the majority of power supplies are designed with this in mind. However some older, but still extremely popular, turntables such as the Garrard 401, have motors which consume up to 12watts and these are beyond the capability of many ac turntable power supplies. Even for low wattage motors a power supply which is poodling along at nothing like full output will run cooler and therefore last longer.

The output from a 50/60Hz crystal oscillator module is processed to produce a very low distortion 50/60Hz sinewave. The high purity sinewave is then power amplified to give around 17V ac with a drive capability of over 2amps. The power amplifier used for this purpose is a high quality unit which will not degrade the purity of the sinewave. The high power sinewave voltage is then stepped up to 230/110V by means of an absolutely silent, encapsulated, toroidal transformer. The turntable power supply comes as a cased kit complete with a punched and drilled 200(d)x150(w)x75(h) black anodised enclosure as well as all of the ancilliary components necessary to make a ready to plug in and go unit. A fully assembled, tested, ready to plug in and go, unit is also available.
